Tell Us Your Love Story

How did you meet? We met in June 2016 one night out in New York City.  I was with a few friends and Al walked in with his two friends.  We found ourselves next to each other at the bar, and Al asked if I wanted a drink.  We had a drink, exchanged numbers and the rest is history.  It is still crazy to think that we met that night in such a big city filled with so many people!

How did he put a ring on it?

One Thursday after a long day at work, I walked into an empty apartment to find a bottle of wine, roses and a long note left on the counter.  The note instructed me that I had to be ready at 8:30PM, because Al had something planned to show me how thankful he was for me for helping take care of him all week since he had been sick.  I remember feeling so anxious and excited at the same time, I had no idea what he had planned, but I had about an hour to get ready and figure out something to wear even though I had no clue where we were going.  At exactly 8:30, I opened the door to our apartment and Al was down on one knee and he asked, “Will you be my wife?” I said yes, we opened a bottle of champagne, then headed to a new restaurant that had just opened in Brooklyn.  When dinner ended, we got back to the apartment and Al told me to pack my bags to catch a flight in four hours to celebrate in California for the long weekend.  Not only did he surprise me with the sweetest proposal he went ahead and spoke to my boss so I could have a few days off work for the trip!

Where did you draw inspiration from?

I am a very indecisive person, so I knew I needed to limit myself with how many places I went and dresses I tried on.  I knew I wanted the dress to feel fun and free.  I did not want something that would be hard to get on or move around.  When I thought of the dress I thought of easy, airy, flirty and ethereal.  And I was luckily enough to find the perfect dress that fit that exact description.

What made the wedding personal to you?

We ended up eloping in Spain, just the two of us, then celebrating with family and friends when we got back.  The wedding was everything I could have dreamed of and more.  We knew we wanted it to be memorable and focus on the two of us and our commitment to spending the rest of our lives together.  We wanted to focus on the commitment so we knew the best way to do that would be just the two of us.  When Al asked me what my dream day would be, I said, “I see the two of us, sharing our vows with a breathtaking location.” So we did just that.  We jetted away to Spain, and the whole day it was just the two of us.  We woke up in our beautiful hotel ate breakfast together, then ordered a bottle of wine as we hung out together and waited for the day to begin.  When the videographer and photographer arrived I slipped into my dress, took some photos alone before we did the first look. After we exchanged vows we enjoyed a 4 course meal on the balcony of our suite, we played music, danced and laughed the entire night.  Most people say the day seems to go so quick, but I felt like we really got to enjoy the whole day since it was just us two.

What were you most nervous or excited about?

I was nervous about leaving behind our family and friends and how we would feel without everyone there.  Luckily when we got back from Spain we had planned a party with our closest friends and family to celebrate.  No One knew that we had already got married in Spain, so as the guests waited for me to walk down the aisle everyone was shocked when the video of our whole elopement played at the venue.  Once the shock settled in that we had been married, we spend the night eating, dancing and watching the fireworks.  It all worked out perfectly.

Now, the most important part – the Dress!

Tell us about your dress?

I was lucky to wear the Guiletta dress from the Spring 2019 line.  The dress was perfect.  One of my best friends told me about the trunk show coming to NYC and I went online to look up the new line.  I fell in love with almost every single dress.  I knew right away I was going to pick one of the dresses.  When I got to the store I tried on 4 dresses, none of which were the Guiletta, then I mentioned the Guiletta to the stylist she ran to grab it for me.  I put it on, took two steps with the silt in the front and fell in love.  The dress was everything I was looking for and I didn’t want to take it off.  I fell in love with the fit and the whimsical skirt, but what sold me was the slit.  The slit made the dress feel less traditional, and since we were planning to elope in Spain I wanted something to express the style in which we were getting married.

What stockist did you get it from? Lovely Bridal in NYC.

What was your most memorable moment from your day?

The most memorable moment from the day was hearing my husband’s vows, that we both took time to write the day of the wedding.  Hearing his promises were surreal, I tried my hardest to listen intently, but the whole time I kept thinking, “is this really happening?”
