Tell Us Your Love Story
How did you meet? We met in September 2008 when I came to Seville to study ‘Spanish’ for 3 months. In the first week, I met some of his friends in a bar and decided to organise a party in my student flat (very impulsive). That Saturday night I didn’t want to go home because I was scared of all the people I had invited that week…… when I walked into the street of my apartment that night at around 11pm (late in Holland, not in Spain), after being avoiding it all day, there were aprox 20 people waiting for me outside. He was one of them. From that day we were inseparable. Funny fact, I didn’t speak ANY Spanish and he didn’t even know how to say HELLO in English…. we created our own language of love 😉
How did he put a ring on it? I always said I didn’t want to get married, but we did both knew that we wanted to celebrate our love with our family and friends and bring them all together at one point! After 10 years Alvaro decided to put a ring on it, he invited me for a weekend to Paris and there in our little tiny apartment, eating a nice cheese plate and red wine he proposed.
Where did you draw inspiration from? One of my good friends here is a (the best) wedding planner – Love a Tope. From day 1 I knew that I wanted her to help me out with the wedding. I didn’t want the ‘typical Spanish wedding’ and as she knows me so very well, I knew she was the right person to help us to create something that would 100% fit us.
What made the wedding personal to you? Pffff.. everything? It was just us. The place (Tarifa, a little surf town in the South of Spain) where we have so many memories, the people… we only invited our closest friends and family, the venue…. we rented the hotel (25 rooms) for the entire weekend and spent 3 days with our closest friends and family in the same place and the atmosphere was just excellent.
What were you most nervous or excited about? That people would have FUN, had good FOOD, enough drinks and a GREAT party (the party lasted till 6am so I think we achieved that)
Now, the most important part – the Dress! YES!
Tell us about your dress? I was pretty nervous about the dress, especially because I normally dress pretty casual and the feeling of me in a big cinderella dress didn’t attract me at all. I think I tried on at least 20/25 dresses before I put on THE DRESS. I was there that day with my mum, sister, best friend and sister in law – they all have TOTALLY different tastes so that was quiet tricky – but when I tried on THE dress and walked out the fitting room they all started to cry…. I didn’t even think about it anymore and I immediately knew that that was going to be my dress. It was flowy, different, and just perfect for me!
What stockist did you get it from? I bought it at White and Ivory Bridal in Maastricht.
What was your most memorable moment from your day? I don’t think there is one moment I liked the most!
