Drawing inspiration from all things ‘dark and moody’ our beautiful bride Jennifer tied the knot in a beautiful wedding based in Charleston. Purchasing her gown from Styled by TC in Brea, Jennifer describes knowing the gown was for her when her then fiancé Alex told her what he imagined her in.
‘ A couple of weeks prior to the wedding I asked Alex what he thought my dress looked like at he described it to a T without every seeing it so I guess it really was perfectly me! ‘

Tell Us Your Love Story
How did you meet? We met for the first time my first year of law school. He was the president of Mock Trial and was my judge when I tried out for the team. I figured that because he never tried to talk to me that he was not interest. He assumed that because I never talked to him that I hated him. About 2 years later, he was about to graduate and a mutual friend told me she thought we would be a great match because “he loves beer and puppies and you love beer and puppies!” She sent me his number and helped me gather the courage to text him out of the blue and I asked him out for dinner. It took us both about 30 minutes on our first date before we realized she was right.
How did he put a ring on it?
After our first date, neither of us wanted the evening to end after dinner so we walked to another restaurant for margaritas. In January of 2019 we went back to the same restaurant. I was just about to sit back down after going to the ladies’ room and he showed me the ring he was holding and proposed. It was very low key and very us. No scene and none else at the restaurant knew
Where did you draw inspiration from?
I would describe our aesthetic as “dark and moody.” We are both pretty nontraditional and did not want to do anything for our wedding just because it is a wedding. We wanted something that felt warm and inviting and that when you walked in you knew you were at our party. This meant no cake and no heels to get in the way of dancing!
What made the wedding personal to you?
We kept the wedding very small, especially for my large family. We didn’t want it to feel like a “wedding” but instead wanted to celebrate our love with those who love us over a great meal and excellent drinks. Our Save the Dates were coasters that read “free drinks with a wedding on the side,” and that is exactly how it felt to us. We opted to forgo a traditional ceremony and just stood in front of everyone as they were seated for dinner and had a quick ceremony before we moved into the party. I also cross stitched a picture of every guest and used that to assign seats. About 50 of the 70 guests were my family that traveled to South Carolina from California and I think it helped express my gratitude for everyone making such a big trip for us.
What were you most nervous or excited about?
I had never been to the venue prior to the week of our wedding and planned the entire thing from across the country. I didn’t know how things would ultimately work out together, but that helped me relax in a sense because I couldn’t worry about the little things. Alex is from Charleston and went to college overseas and I am from California so we were both the most excited to party with all of our friends together in one place.
Now, the most important part – the Dress!
Tell us about your dress? Before I looked at dresses, I knew that I wanted a dress that was not too “bridal” and would match our laid back style and the style of the wedding. I thought I wanted something that was pretty tight in the body and did not flare out too much or have too long of a train. I knew that I wanted something with long sleeves and a v neck line. The dress I found fit that description perfectly. I was worried that I was missing out on dress styles I hadn’t considered but after trying on several other styles I realized I knew what I wanted all along and went with the dress that I had been dreaming of. A couple of weeks prior to the wedding I asked Alex what he thought my dress looked like at he described it to a T without every seeing it so I guess it really was perfectly me!
What stockist did you get it from? Styled by TC in Brea
What was your most memorable moment from your day? The dance floor. We loved being about to look around and see the faces of everyone that is most important to both of us. It was one giant party to celebrate us that we will never get to experience again. Oh, and the chicken liver pate!
