Tell Us Your Love Story
How did you meet?
Christian and I met at an interview for our clinical psychology doctoral program. I was coming from NYC and Christian from DC, and a few weeks after the interview, we found out we both got in! We had both been wondering about the other over the summer. and when fall 2017 arrived, we connected at the welcome party for our program and immediately felt like we were going to be friends. Soon we started texting, sharing music, and embarrassing middle school photos. We would go on hikes, or just hang out or do work. One night, we planned to go to a drag show with our cohort, but the others bailed so we went together, and that was the night of our first kiss.
How did he put a ring on it?
We traveled to NYC for the NYU Drama Therapy Theatre & Health Forum in April 2019. We were planning to leave New York on Saturday, but Christian thought we were leaving Sunday, and for months planned the proposal for that day! So that weekend in New York, my friends convinced me to stay to have lunch with them on Sunday. When we met up, my friend Roxy claimed a desperate bathroom emergency and suggested we pop into the NYU theatre a block away. I walked in and saw gorgeous soft blue stage lights and Christian sitting alone on stage with a guitar. He sang ‘Stand By Me’, a very special song to us, beautifully and at the chorus a group of our most treasured friends emerged from the wings and sang, including my family! Afterwards we danced over to B-Bar to celebrate. A week later I serenaded Christian in my pyjamas with an acoustic version of “Halo” by Beyonce and proposed with an engagement ring for him.
Where did you draw inspiration from?
Our love of nature, A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Shakespeare, the natural beauty of the woods and national parks, and magic!
What made the wedding personal to you?
Our incredible friends and family performed, spoke from the heart, created dances for us, and lit up the woods with magic. It was such a beautiful display of love by the people we care about the most!
What were you most nervous or excited about?
I was both nervous and excited for Christian to see me for the first time walking down the aisle! We didn’t do a first look because we wanted to experience the full drama and magic of the reveal with music and all of our loved ones. We were both crying as we walked toward each other to get married!
Now, the most important part – the Dress!
Tell us about your dress?
My beautiful ISOLDE gown…I loved it so much! When I walked out in ISOLDE at my bridal appointment, everybody cried because the dress was so perfect, and then I teared up, and it just felt like such a special moment. I am a classic Gemini and had a hard time making the decision, but I am SO glad I went with ISOLDE! She is truly stunning.
What stockist did you get it from?
Lovely Bride, NYC
What was your most memorable moment from your day?
Singing The Circle Game by Joni Mitchell at our ceremony, and watching my bridal party perform a choreographed dance to Rain on Me by Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande!
